What's New
Dave Bigelow just bought his DG400 motorglider -
to arrive in Waimea May, 2007.

Since the beginning of the year we've had 5 flights
to altitudes up to 28,000 ft in the wave off Mauna
Kea, and two flights to over 16,000 ft off the Kohala
mountain wave.

Woody flew an 8 5mile triangle in the  convergence
and thermal conditions in April
Mauna Kea Soaring
We are a small group of soaring enthusiasts flying
out of  the Waimea-Kohala Airport just south of
Waimea (Kamuela) on the Big Island.
Flying conditions
When do we fly?
Any day the wind or rain don't stop us - usually you'll find at least some of us at the
airport on the weekends staring around 9:30.  Soaring conditions often shut down
by 3:30, so if you want to drop by, come early.
Mauna Kea Soaring
Convergence lift generated by the trade winds and a westerly sea-breeze.
Wave off the Kohala Mountains, and when we're lucky, from Mauna Kea.
Thermals on those rare windless days.
